Washington DC - East of the River

The East of the River district has an old time Virginia lure, full of old houses, many of which are from the Civil War era. Here there are also acres of open riverfront along with the best views of our nation’s capitol.

East of the River is home to the Anacostia Historic District. The district used to be called Uniontown and was where Washington Navy Yard workers lived in what was the city's first planned suburb. The home of one of the most important figures in African American history, Fredrick Douglass, also can be found in Anacostia as it stands regally on a hilltop looking out over the historic district.
