Washington DC - DowntownThe Downtown district of Washington D.C. is real urban living at its finest. Many elite and luxurious restaurants and hotels line the streets as well as theaters, cafés, and memorials. Downtown is very clean and polished, every building and establishment looking impressive and well kept. This area of the city is number one for nightlife, entertainment, and fine dining. Historic Downtown is located between the White House and the Capitol Building and was once the center of political, social, and commercial life. Daniel Webster's home and office stood across the street from the Old City Hall. Walt Whitman cared for wounded Civil War soldiers in the Patent Office which is now home to the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Nearby, Samuel Morse opened the world's first telegraph office. The famous and influential have lived and worked along these streets for centuries and it is incredible to come and walk in their footsteps along the same streets as they did, breathing in the rich Washington air. |
