Washington DC - Brookland

Brookland, also known as "little Rome," is full of antique architecture and style. One of the most beautiful and unique places to visit here is the Franciscan Monastery, a remarkable Byzantine-style church modeled after Istanbul's famed Hagia Sofia and built in 1899. The monastery along with Catholic University and more than 60 Catholic institutions is what gives this historic district its nickname and its mystical charm.

Visiting just to see the sights within this quiet neighborhood makes Brookland a place of escape from the other more active and bustling districts Washington is known for. There are many Libraries and collections for solace or quiet study such as the Dominican House of Studies, the Marist College Library, Oblate College and Theology Library, and Trinity College, all of which make their resources available to those interested in research.
